Ride one of the most popular routes in the United States, as we climb the scenic Front Range out of Denver on the route carved through the mountains by David Moffatt and the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad.  Enjoy spectacular daylight views of the Rockies & Sierra Nevada Mountains in both east and westbound directions. We will have a full day to explore the world renowned California State Railroad Museum.  Please make plans to join us on this fabulous & scenic six day adventure.

 

TRIP ITINERARY

 

DAY 1 - THURSDAY  SEPTEMBER 9, 2021

Passengers arriving at Denver International Airport can take the light rail directly to the heart of downtown, the Denver Union Station.by taking the travelers can use the University of Colorado A Line (usually referred to as the A Line) to get from the airport to Union Station.  The Denver airport rail has six stops between the airport and Denver Union Station. At a cost of $10.50, the 23-mile ride takes approximately 37 minutes.

 

Denver Union Station itself is a beautiful 1914 Beaux-Arts building and the location of a number of hip, locally owned restaurants, bars & shops.

 

7:00PM:  The BERLIN & FRANK THOMSON will be available for early boarding at Denver Union Station.  

Evening:  Premium Beverage and snack service will be available in the Frank Thomson lounge until 11:00PM local time.  Passengers overnight in the comfort of your private room. 

 

DAY 2 - FRIDAY  SEPTEMBER 10, 2021

6:30AM:  All remaining passengers may board at this time.  Wake Up Coffee is available in the Frank Thomson lounge.

7:00AM - 9:30AM: (approx):  Breakfast served in the Frank Thomson lounge.

7:15AM:  Our train #5, the Amtrak California Zephyr, is scheduled to arrive in Denver. Our cars will be attached to the rear of the consist.

8:05AM:  Scheduled departure from Denver Union Station.

Morning:  Enjoy the beautiful vistas as our train climbs the Rocky Mountain Front Range and cuts through the Continental Divide in the 6.2 mile long Moffatt Tunnel. 

12 Noon: (approx):  Lunch served on-board en-route, in the Frank Thomson lounge.

Afternoon:  Premium beverage and snack service continues in our lounge as we pass through both the scenic Glenwood, Gore and Byers canyons.

6:30PM: (approx): Dinner served on-board, en-routeThe culinary talents of our on-board chef have been called upon to create a tantalizing dinner this evening. Dining in the Frank Thomson lounge, enjoy a glass of wine while the ever changing countryside scenes race by our windows.

Evening:  Premium beverage and snack service continues in our lounge until 11pm local time. And when you feel "it's time", retire to your private accommodation while our train traverses the desert flatlands of Utah and Nevada. Our first class on-board staff has it transformed from a comfortable day room, to its restful nighttime configuration.  Goodnight! 

 

DAY 3 - SATURDAY  SEPTEMBER 11, 2021

6:30AM:  Early Wake Up Coffee available in the Frank Thomson lounge.

7:00AM-9:30AM: (approx):  Breakfast served in the Frank Thomson lounge.

Morning:  Enjoy the stunning views of the Sierra Nevada mountains as we cross Donner Pass.

Noon to 1:00PM (approx):   Lunch served in the Frank Thomson lounge.

2:13PM:   This is our scheduled arrival time in Sacramento, CA, where Sacramento passengers will transfer to our hotels via Uber, Taxi or stretch your legs for a 0.4 mile picturesque stroll from the Amtrak Station to the hotels, which are adjacent to the Old Town Sacramento area and River Walk. Our railcars will continue on to Emeryville, where Emeryville passengers will detrain.

 

4:10PM: (approx): Arrival in Emeryville where all remaining passengers detrain and transfer to their hotel.  Our railcars will be serviced for the return trip and will not be available until Monday Sept 13th.

Dinner:  is on your own at one of many fine eating establishments found in the Old Town Sacramento or Emeryville areas.

Evening:  Free time to explore before retiring to your hotel room.

 

DAY 4 - SUNDAY  SEPTEMBER 12, 2021

10:00AM:  is when the California State Railroad Museum opens for visitors.  Sacramento passengers  will already have your Museum and Excursion Ride tickets, so you can come and go as you please. 

All Day:  Free time to enjoy and explore.  Lunch & Dinner are on your own.

Evening:  More free time to explore before retiring to your hotel room.

 

DAY 5 - MONDAY  SEPTEMBER 13, 2021

Before 8:10AM:  Emeryville passengers will check out of hotels & transfer to Emeryville Amtrak Station.

8:10AM:  Emeryville passengers will meet at Amtrak Station one hour before departure time. Ready to board our private cars as soon as the California Zephyr arrives in Emeryville.

9:10AM:  Train #6, the California Zephyr departs Emeryville, CA.

 

Before 10:00AM:  Sacramento passengers will check out of hotels & transfer to Sacramento Amtrak Station.

10:00AM:  Sacramento passengers will meet at Amtrak Station one hour before departure time. Ready to board our private cars as soon as the California Zephyr arrives in Sacramento.

11:09AM:  Train #6, the California Zephyr departs Sacramento, CA.

12 Noon: (approx):  Lunch served on-board en-route, in the Frank Thomson lounge as we begin our climb up Donner Pass.

Afternoon:  Premium snack & beverage service continues in the Frank Thomson lounge.

5:00PM: (approx):  Dinner served in the Frank Thomson lounge as we cross the Nevada desert.

6:30PM: (approx):  Dinner served on-board, en-route.

Evening:  Premium beverage and snack service continues in our lounge until 11:00PM. Passengers retire at leisure to their private rooms for overnight.  Let the rhythm of the rails lull you to sleep!

 

DAY 6 - TUESDAY  SEPTEMBER 14, 2021

 

6:30AM:  Early Wake Up Coffee available in the Frank Thomson lounge.  Early risers will get to see the majestic Wasatch Mountains east of Salt Lake City.

7:00AM-9:30AM: (approx):  Breakfast served in the Frank Thomson lounge.

Morning:  Relish in the ever-changing natural beauty of our vast United States.  Marvel in the Settler's courage as they traversed this majestic land.

Noon to 1:00PM: (approx):  Lunch served as we return to the rugged landscapes of Colorado.

Afternoon:  Premium beverage and snack service continues in our lounge as we pass through the scenic Glenwood and Byers canyons, and the Moffat Tunnel.

5:00PM: (approx):  Dinner served on-board, en-route as we decend through the many tunnels and steep grades of the Front Range.

6:00PM:  Passengers gather their luggage and belongings so Car Attendants can move and prepare luggage for a smooth de boarding process.

6:38PM:  Arrival in Denver Union Station.  Car Attendants will carry your luggage off of the railcars in advance of your de boarding.  This marks the end of an exciting and memorable experience.  We sincerely Thank You for the privilege of serving you!

FARE: $9,720/person, single occupancy with proof of full COVID vaccination

This six day trip includes all rail transportation, meals en route and all overnight accommodations.

Fare does not include any meals mentioned in the itinerary as on your own, & all personal spending.

Fare does not include crew or vendor gratuities.

 

NOTE: All proceeds go toward the restoration and maintenance of the Frank Thomson and Berllin rail cars.

 

 

TRAVEL TERMS AND CONDITIONS

TOUR PRICES:  Tour prices are subject to change without notice, however Deep River Rail Ventures, LLC will make every effort to advise changes within a reasonable period of time.

ITINERARY CHANGES:  Deep River Rail Ventures reserves the right to change train routing, substitute equipment, alter or modify the tour components if any unexpected and unforeseen conditions occur beyond our control. In the railroad industry last minute changes DO occur.

DEPOSITS AND FINAL PAYMENTS:  If reservations are made more than 90 days before departure date, a non refundable $150/person deposit (double occupancy) or a non refundable $300/person deposit (single occupancy) is required to secure space. At 90 days before departure date, a 50% deposit of entire trip fare is required to secure space. The deposit payment(s) can be made by sending a personal or bank check and must reach Deep River Rail Ventures, LLC within 7 days after reserving. Final payment must be received by 30 days before departure date. If reservations are made less than 30 days before departure date, a 50% deposit of entire fare is required and must reach Deep River Rail Ventures, LLC by a time limit date to be arrangeure date: 100% refund is available minus the non refundable deposit mentioned above. 89 to 45 days before departure date: 50% refund of entire trip fare. 44 days to departure date: NO REFUND is available. If we have to cancel the trip, then we will provide you with a full refund of your deposit and payment(s). The two most likely causes of us having to cancel a trip would be a mechanical problem that could not be resolved in time for the trip, or a decision by any of the host railroads not to approve the planned travel itinerary.

TRAVEL INSURANCE IS ENCOURAGED:  To protect investment in travel, Deep River Rail Ventures strongly encourages and can arrange travel insurance at additional cost. Some bank cards also have a travel insurance provision which passengers should consult their card company for details. If travel insurance is desired, consult www.travelguard.com website. Then call them directly to get insurance coverage information that will be specific to you and your trip.

IRESPONSIBILITY AND LIMITATION OF LIABILITY:  Deep River Rail Ventures assumes no responsibility for injury, sickness, loss, additional expenses, accidental delay or irregularities which may be caused through willful or negligent acts or omissions of the part of companies providing or engaging in transportation, accommodation of services related to the accomplishment of the tour. We have no control of the timing of our charter trains. Indeed passenger trains and charters do often run late quite often. Nor do we assume responsibility for natural disaster, social or political upheaval, acts of terrorism or acts of nature. We reserve the right to substitute hotels, tour leaders, equipment, motive power, trains, and routes.

RIGHT TO REFUSE SERVICE:  Deep River Rail Ventures reserves the right to refuse service to anyone we deem necessary in order to insure that all of our clients will have the best possible tour.

PREDEPARTURE TOUR BULLETINS:  Tour bulletins will be e-mailed or U.S. mailed to passengers who have reserved a specific tour as needed.

TICKETS AND BOARDING PASSES:  Deep River Rail Ventures will either e-mail or U.S. mail tickets, documents, and boarding passes usually 10 days to 2 weeks before departure day. A set of instructions and expectations will also accompany these items.

ACCESSIBILITY:  It must be understood that passengers should be able to walk and negotiate steps on their own or with some minor assistance from Deep River Rail Ventures attendants. Restored vintage railcars do not in some cases have complete handicap accessibility. Wheelchairs are not accessible. Red Cap service is available at some major stations.

ALTITUDE:  Some Deep River Rail Ventures tours have time spent in higher altitudes. It is important that passengers know their limits and consult their physician to be sure altitude will not be a problem.

NO SMOKING:  For the health and safety of our passengers and crew, smoking is not permitted anywhere on the railcar(s).  This policy applies to all Amtrak trains.  For those who must "light up", Amtrak provides occasional "Smoke Stops", where passengers can disembark to smoke.
